Its not much but I found it rather helpful when you wish to gather AP when you do not want to do quests, or simply just wanna work on your main character. This is what I do:
1. Make a character you wish to work on next after you are done with your main/other alt.
2. Do the beginning quests until you unlock meditation.
3. Just wait until you gather enough AP or whatever.
4. Working on your main is time consuming, so this would be helpful in a way.
Once you do that, you can just gather up AP while you are working on your other character. Check in like ever so often to see how much AP you have accumulated. Or..get your desired sub character to any level beyond obtaining meditation, and just gather AP that way. I mean I have gathered a lot of AP on my level 10 Karok and I maxed out some low level skills I needed. Its a simple tip really.
